A needle-free, no-downtime way to get growth factors and peptides past the skin barrier and down to the follicle, where they can actually do something.
TED is performed at Primary Care 4 Hair in Newport Beach, where Shawn works alongside Dr. Bryan C. Doonan. It is not offered at the Montrose location. See the Newport Beach page →
TED stands for TransEpidermal Delivery. The scalp is very good at its job, which is keeping things out. That is why most topicals sit on the surface and never reach the follicle they were meant for.
TED solves that with sound instead of needles. Acoustic waves and gentle air pressure open temporary micro-channels in the scalp and carry a formula of growth factors, peptides, and nutrients down to where the follicle lives. Those channels close on their own within about 15 to 20 minutes.
No injections. No numbing. No incisions, so nothing to scar.
Start to finish, most people are in and out in about half an hour.
We look before we treat. A trichoscope exam tells us what is actually happening at the root and whether TED is the right tool for your pattern.
The formula is applied and the handpiece moves across the scalp for roughly 20 to 30 minutes. Most people find it relaxing.
No downtime and no aftercare beyond leaving your hair alone for the rest of the day. No washing until tomorrow.
Typically three sessions about six weeks apart, then maintenance roughly every six months to hold what you have gained.
We photograph and re-scan along the way, so improvement is something you can see side by side rather than guess at.
What you do between sessions matters. We build the at-home routine around the treatment, not separately from it.
TED is far less useful on areas that have been smooth for years. Where the follicle is gone, nothing topical brings it back. If that is what we find, we will say so.
Hair grows slowly, so this is measured in months. Shedding is usually the first thing to settle. Density and coverage follow later, and they build across the series rather than appearing after session one.
Results are also not permanent. Hair loss is progressive and hair is always cycling, which is why maintenance sessions exist. Anyone promising a one-time fix is selling something.
Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. TED is a cosmetic hair restoration treatment. It is not a diagnosis or a cure for hair loss, and it does not replace care from a physician where a medical cause is involved.
No needles and no numbing are involved. Most people describe it as a warm, tingly pressure on the scalp, closer to a scalp massage than a procedure. You can drive yourself home and go straight back to your day.
A typical starting series is three sessions spaced about six weeks apart, followed by maintenance roughly every six months. Your actual plan depends on what your scalp analysis shows and what is driving your hair loss, so we confirm it after your assessment.
None. The micro-channels the device opens close on their own within about 15 to 20 minutes. We ask that you leave the scalp alone and skip washing your hair for the rest of the day.
Probably not. TED works by supporting follicles that are still there but struggling. Where follicles are gone entirely, no topical treatment brings them back, and we will tell you that honestly rather than sell you sessions.
Newport Beach only, at Primary Care 4 Hair alongside Dr. Bryan C. Doonan. It is not available at the Montrose location. Scalp analysis and planning can happen at either location.
Usually, yes. TED pairs well with a good home routine, and many clients also use Nutrafol or a professional topical. Tell us everything you are taking or using so we can look at the whole picture instead of stacking blindly.
Every TED plan starts with a scalp analysis, so you know what you are treating before you treat it.
